Faithful, theologically rich children's books are a rare treat in Christian publishing. Laferton has provided us one of the best little treatments of biblical theology available for parents to read to their children. The Garden, the Curtain, and the Cross not only teaches children stories in the Bible but the story of the Bible - one that culminates in the atoning work of Jesus Christ who gives broken sinners access to God. This book is a tremendous resource for parents and children who want to better understand the grand storyline of Scripture.

My grandchildren loved this book—and so did I. Both the pictures and the words have made the Bible's story of redemption clear and beautiful. This is a book that invites us in.

I am so excited about this book! It is colorful, engaging, and creative, and that's just the icing on the cake! Our children receive invitations to participate in many different stories—stories of who they are, their purpose, and what God is like. The Garden, the Curtain and the Cross is a brilliant re-telling of the one story that rules all other stories. I cannot commend this book highly enough. Read it to your children, give it to your neighbors, and talk about what it means to live in light of the fact that the curtain has been torn.

"Exceptional"

Catherine Brookes, Mum in Zone One, February 2nd 2016

I think Carl Laferton has done an exceptional job of simplifying an essential truth which could easily come across as very complicated … He makes articulating doctrine seem like child’s play.... continue reading

“Great resource”

Having this art available for free to go with the Sunday School curriculum (which we adapted for a three-night Vacation Bible School) was wonderful. The art is simply beautiful, engaging the imaginations of kids so well. And that made it perfect for flyers that we made and used to invite kids to participate in our VBS. So grateful for this resource!

“Creation, Fall, Redemption...clear gospel message for kids”

(Review written for 'The Garden, the Curtain and the Cross Storybook')

The Garden, the Curtain, and the Cross is one of the best gospel resources for children (adults too!). The creation, fall, redemption arc of scripture, the focus on Christ providing the way back into fellowship with God through death and resurrection is clearly presented. On a personal note, this book will forever hold a special place on our bookshelves and will be one we continue to gift to others as it was during a reading of The Garden, the Curtain, and the Cross that the truth of the salvation became clear to our son (who was four at that time). Praise be to God! This is a great resource to use alongside Bible teaching and prayer in family discipleship.

“A great summation of the Gospel for little ones”

(Review written for 'The Garden, the Curtain and the Cross Storybook')

I work for a pregnancy center and I purchase this book to give to our clients with young children. I love it! The colorful cover catches little ones' attentions and it packs a remarkable amount of the Gospel into just a few pages. The first time I looked through it, I teared up at the end when it shared the amazing hope we have stored up in Heaven. I definitely recommend!

“Pictures”

This is a book containing three wonderful pictures. I mean it contains not only coloured illustrations, but tremendous life changing truths told in images that people of all ages can begin to understand. When I pick up a book with colour illustrations, I always look at these first. The Bible is full of word pictures. Our Lord Jesus himself used word pictures or actual objects people could see in order to illustrate many points.
The three 'images' in the Garden ,the Veil and the Cross communicate so much. They provide the stuff for years of reflection and meditation. Why not start young?!

“Beautifully detailed illustrations”

I came across The Garden, The Curtain and The Cross and was really taken by it's simple yet powerful account of the gospel and our need for a saviour. The illustrations in the book just added to it's character. I downloaded these images and used them as discussion prompts with the children and to make a replica of the curtain using a large disposable table cover that the children tore and then went into the wee room that had been blocked off by the Curtain. Really powerful activity.

“Wonderful for families”

(Review written for 'The Garden, the Curtain and the Cross Storybook')

We've had this book for a few years and really enjoy it. It's a clear story of the garden, sin, and the cross, and what happens because the veil is torn. It has led to wonderful conversations with our family and friends.

“Excellent”

(Review written for 'The Garden, the Curtain and the Cross')

This set is brilliant. Our kids (7 and 5) were excited to open each door on the corresponding calendar and hear the reading each night. The readings were perfectly aimed for kids, and flexible enough to make appropriate for your own family.

All the books in this series are loved and re read independently by our children (and one even taken into school to show their class).

“great resource”

This book is both beautiful, accessible and deep. To have FREE resources to broaden it's use is brilliant. Thankyou.

“Well written and beautifully illustrated book.”

(Review written for 'The Garden, the Curtain and the Cross')

I bought this book and the accompanying activity book to use for Easter lockdown Sunday school.
We read a few pages of the story each week and then completed the matching pages in the activity book.
I loved the way the book tells the Easter story from Genesis to Revelation which is so helpful when teaching children why Jesus had to die. The repeated rhyme was useful too and the seven year old I was teaching really enjoyed reading the whole book through on Easter Sunday.

A beautifully illustrated and powerfully written book for children. A rarity these days. My children sit in awe until the end! Highly recommended.
