Learn from Elijah, a man just like us, but used by God to reveal who God is and to confront idolatry.
Part of the Good Book Guides series.
Elijah burst into Israel’s history at a time of idolatry and evil. Through him it was confronted and exposed by God.
But this man, just like us, also knew weakness and failure. Not so much a mighty man, as a man serving the mighty God. In God’s grace, Elijah persevered, and revealed God’s mighty sovereignty, grace, power, justice, and salvation.
Christians today face the same pressures that Elijah experienced. Elijah’s ups and downs speak to us too.

The Good Book Guides have been developed to ensure that each session not only seeks to uncover the meaning of the passage and see how it fits into the big picture of the Bible, but also leads people to apply what they have learned to their lives. Flexible and practical, the Good Book Guides are ideal for small groups, or individual study.
"The format is very user-friendly and the content is rich and accessible."
- Justin Taylor, Gospel Coalition blogger and Vice-President of Editorial, Crossway
"God-centered, application-oriented, and driven by the text throughout, this resource is a gift to God’s church."
- Matt Smethurst, Gospel Coalition reviewer and Master of Divinity student at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary
"Here at Covenant Life Church, we have greatly benefitted from the small group resources from The Good Book Company. Many small groups in our family life ministry have used "Colossians: Confident Christianity" in their study of scripture. Additionally, our youth ministry has used "Romans 1-5: God and You" in their small groups. Both resources were very easy to use, helped the reader engage directly with the scriptures, and had a wonderful pastoral emphasis demonstrated in all the questions."
- Dave Brewer, Youth Pastor at Covenant Life Church, Maryland
Most of this study was great. I appreciated the way it drew on background texts from the Pentateuch and New Testament. The suggested application was generally relevant and helpful. I disagree with the author's interpretation of 1 Kings 19 (I agree with Dale Ralph Davies that going down the "Elijah's depression" route risks missing the point of the chapter) hence the 4 stars.
We used this book for the first time last Wednesday at our study group. We found it very helpful with lots to get you thinking and praying. Looking forward to our next session
We used this study in our ladies bible study and found it very good. A lot of relevant questions and thoughts. We took 2 sessions to do each study to get the best out of it. Would definitely recommend.
I always find the Good Book guides very helpful when leading Bible Studies. The questions posed and the comments made are excellent for discussion topics and when preparation time is at a premium always so very helpful. I would commend also the very efficient manner in which orders are executed. Ian Ball
An excellent set of bible studies on Elijah. Used this with a small women's fellowship group and the studies were easy enough to do without any prep at all. We just picked up the guide and read the questions and worked our way through together. We loved having the answers in the back for when we got stuck!
Used these studies in HMP Usk and they were excellent. The guys loved looking at the life of Elijah and so did i. Really enjoy using the GBC study guides in between running Christianity Explored and Discipleship Explored Prison Editions.
