Greatest of All Time

I chose Greatest of All Time as the devotional for our summer homeschool this year, and after reading it, I'm so glad I did. I purposely chose a selection from this publisher because our family prefers books that offer a solid evangelical, Christian message, as well as present the plan of salvation, both of which this devotional offers.

Studying the purpose, life and ministry of Jesus, this devotional invites kids to slow down and ponder the extraordinary life of Christ ...in a way that's engaging, easy to understand, interactive and fun. I love that the devotional encourages kiddos to consider who Jesus is and what He means to them.

My daughter loves adding her own notes, coloring and answers to the book's questions as we go, which helps the lessons stick. The devotional is laid out over eight weeks, but it’s flexible enough to move at our own pace. It works well as something my daughter can do independently, but we prefer to do it together as a family. It would even work well as something children can do with siblings or friends. While designed for elementary-aged kids, this devotional works for a wide range of ages, as even my husband and I have found takeaways from it.

Biblical themes such as faith, obedience, courage, humility, and trust in God are woven throughout in language children can understand and apply. Rather than relying on abstract ideas, the book uses relatable examples and clear explanations that help children grasp why these truths matter and how they connect to their relationship with Jesus.

One of the book’s greatest strengths is its clarity of focus. It avoids distractions and trends, keeping the attention on the gospel and on forming a Christ-centered worldview from an early age. It is a valuable resource for anyone looking to disciple children with intention, depth, and biblical faithfulness.

I love a good children’s devotional workbook. I also especially love that this one is “boy-ish” because we tend to see more girly Bible resources than ones that interest my 8 year old son. Greatest of All Time prompts children to dig into Scripture to learn about our Savior. Each day begins with reading the verses, followed by various was of providing context clarification, historical relevance, backstories, and further thoughts on the readings before ending with a prayer prompt. It’s written and illustrated in ways that easily engage children without dumbing things down. It’s grounded in Scripture while maintaining accessibility ...for kids. There are 8 weeks with 5 daily devotionals and a weekly roundup for each week. Each day is a 2-page spread with minimal writing sections. It’s just enough for children without being overwhelming or boring.
