I’m often asked how the Seek and Find Series came about. It has been something of a life’s journey—one I can now see was being shaped long before I understood it…
I’m severely dyslexic, so, as a child, I loved search-and-find books. They gave me a way to love books without the pressure of reading. Reading drained me; looking at pictures didn’t. I remember curling up in bed with my mom, spending hours searching the pages together. Those quiet, safe moments were a gift—and though I didn’t know it then, they were seeds God was already planting.
School told a very different story. The later years of elementary school were deeply painful. I was bullied by my class teacher. As a punishment for not finishing my work, I was made to stand on a chair and read aloud to the class. I couldn’t. I felt humiliated, exposed, and small. I was left out, labelled hopeless, and told I would never amount to anything. Those words settled deep inside me, shaping a belief that I wasn’t enough—a belief I carried for years.
Even as an adult, those scars remained. Reading aloud still feels hard. Words jump, I stumble, and flow disappears. When my own children were young, reading to them often brought me right back to that classroom. What should have been a joy felt heavy and overwhelming.
So I turned, almost selfishly, to search-and-find books—because they didn’t ask me to read. But something beautiful happened. My children loved them just as much as I had. We spent time together searching pages, laughing, noticing details. The same warmth I’d known with my mom was now being passed on. God was quietly redeeming those moments.
Years later, as my days as a school-run mom came to an end, I found myself facing a new fear. I knew I needed to work, but I had no idea what I could do. Those old voices returned: You’re not enough. Your weaknesses will be exposed. I felt lost and afraid.
I asked God what to do, and where I was meant to go next.
In the weeks that followed, God planted the idea about search-and-find books. This time, they were Bible-based. I “just happened” to be married to the most incredible illustrator, which made the idea feel possible.
A couple of years later, Seek and Find was born.
The Seek and Find Series grew from a place I never would have chosen—but God, in his kindness, turned pain into purpose. What once shut me out became a doorway for others. Seek and Find is an invitation into Scripture that welcomes every child, regardless of academic ability. It’s proof that God wastes nothing—and that sometimes our deepest wounds can become the very place his light shines through most clearly.
Today, I carry a deep and steady assurance that I am enough—not because I have overcome every struggle, but because I am deeply loved by God. That truth has slowly undone the lies spoken over me as a child. I still struggle; dyslexia hasn’t disappeared, and reading will probably always be hard. But it no longer defines my worth. Instead, I’ve learned to be thankful for it, because God has used the very thing I once wished away to shape compassion, creativity, and purpose in my life. What felt like a weakness became the place where his grace met me most clearly, and where I finally learned to rest in who I am—fully known, fully loved, and enough.
My prayer is that the Seek and Find Storybook Bible might be a stepping stone for everyone who picks it up, leading them to discover these wonderful truths for themselves.
