Written by Carl Laferton, author of The Garden, The Curtain and The Cross and God's Big Promises Bible Storybook.
All the books in the Tales That Tell The Truth for Toddlers series distill a core Christian truth in a way that very young children can understand.
The corresponding storybooks for 3-6-year-olds expand on these truths, adding more detail, explanation, and context.
An accompanying Art and Activity Book is also available to purchase.
I received The God Contest compliments of The Good Book Company in exchange for my honest review.
The God Contest board book is a condensed version of the eponymous picture book. This version is designed to help young readers learn the truth of God's word early on.This book retells the account of 1 Kings 18:20-40, in which the prophet Elijah challenged Baal's prophets to determine who the one true God is. The book concludes by telling little ones that "Jesus ...is the real God!"
This is a simple, truth filled resource that is great for introducing toddlers to the Bible. It is a part of the Tales That Tell the Truth series and we can't wait to read forthcoming titles!
Finally is this board book with the dynamic duo of Laferton and Echeverri, based on the award winning storybook with the same name. I havenât read the storybook version of this one but I assume that itâs more lengthy (and more art) in content. I think this is one of the example that I can give that has the same approach with the second book in this review. Although, Jesus Moments: David laid it out clear and straight forward, this new book from Laferton and Echeverri has itâs own thing to in pointing Elijah to Jesus Christ, that is enjoyable ...and understandable for the target audience. Laferton knows the language of toddlers and the choice of words will stick in either reading to your little ones or theyâre the ones who are reading the book. Short but impactful. As for the illustration, Echeverri did what she do best: give kids something that will make their imagination run wild. Like Laferton, she works is limited because of the format of the book. Nevertheless, her illustrations on this book is boundless, specially the one when the God of the Bible proves He is the real God. Of course the essential part of this book is leading kids to Christ, that he is the real God. That transition is a good one. Finishing off the book, a simple interactive thing will help kids see the important lesson of the book.

The God Contest Storybook is a favorite in our home and so I was excited to see The Good Book Company release a board book for little ones!
With simple sentences and engaging illustrations, I believe this is a good resource for teaching young children that there is only one God who answers our prayers and is sovereign over all.
And though I appreciate the connection at the end about Jesus being God, I do feel it was a bit rushed and oversimplified and would have liked for the gospel connection to be explained a bit further.
Overall, my children enjoyed it and I think this would make a nice addition to any preschoolerâs library.
