This fun, interactive resource will give children skills to read the Bible as they connect the stories and learn that the whole Bible is about Jesus.
Moments in Samson's story when something in the story is a little bit like Jesus are signposted with symbols that children need to spot, helping them to understand the relationship between the Old and New Testaments.
Children will see how Samson's story points ahead to Jesus through…
Written by Alison Mitchell, the award-winning author of Jesus and the Lions’ Den and The One O’Clock Miracle, and beautifully illustrated, this book makes a great gift for children ages 4+. It can also be used for children’s ministry.
I have every book of the Jesus Moments series, because they are that good! These books, including Samson, do not gloss over character flaws, as some books do, glorifying biblical characters instead of Christ. No. These books absolutely shine a light on JESUS! The books point out how these old testament characters reflect the coming Messiah. I have read this to my own kids many times. My primary age children have become so good at seeing Jesus throughout the bible, and I believe these books have given them the training ground to develop that skill. I also have loved supplementing ...these books from my personal library into my Sunday school curriculum and my students adore them.
So happy to see another addition to this great series! Teaching children that the whole panoply of Scripture culminates in Jesus Christ is essential and yet sadly lacking in many resources. The fact that this book uses an engaging way to get this point across is that much more fun for kids.
This book looks at the life of Samson. The last pages go back and explain the “Jesus moments” in more detail. Finding the hidden clues isn’t always as ...outright obvious which my children, ages 9 and 11, really appreciate. Scripture references are also included on the last page under “Why look for Jesus moments?” which I’m so glad for! I think it provides a great springboard to jump into God’s Word. There’s also a free downloadable bookmark on The Good Book’s website that’s a great addition to the book.
The illustrations are bold and don’t shy away from the story while maintaining appropriateness for children. The story of Samson is a bit more gruesome than others in the series with lots of killing, but still very suitable for children and most importantly, aligns with Scripture. We want to be able to teach our kids the entirety of Scripture in a way that is fitting and this book is a great resource to do just that! The text is bigger and easy to read for any independent reader. Unlike some of the books in this series, there is not a matching worksheet on the website for children to complete while reading or after reading the book. The homeschool mom in me loves this kind of stuff and I hope they come out with one for this book as well because it’s such a great way to practice recall and writing competency.
I received a complimentary copy as a reviewer and all opinions shared are my own.
This is another great book in the 'Jesus Moments' series by Alison Mitchell of TGBC. The series takes a look at famous Bible characters and shows how they point forward to Jesus, encouraging the reader to make the links, which is a wonderful skill to give our kids. The book is peppered with clues in the pictures for kids to spot to show this is a 'Jesus moment' and they then need to work out the links, with all the links clearly explained at the end. I think this is a particularly good book in the series, the story is ...well told and interesting. I would recommend for age 2-7 years.
