About this book

Jesus knew how scary it is when someone gets really sick. He knew how sad it is when someone dies. Jesus cried when his friend, Lazarus, died. But he did something at his friend’s tomb that changed everything. He showed that he came to give his friends life after death.

In this vivid, moving and exciting retelling of the story of Lazarus, Lauren Chandler helps children understand that Jesus came to say goodbye to goodbyes—forever.

Endorsements

Goodbye to Goodbyes gives our kids a big, colorful view of the God we serve and His defeat of sin and death forever!

Jennie Allen Author of Nothing to Prove; Founder of IF:Gathering

Lauren took one of my favorite stories in the Bible and brought it to life for us. Children and adults will be moved by the love and compassion that Jesus shows towards the people he loves in this story. Thankfully, one day there will be no more goodbyes!

Jamie Ivey Author of If You Only Knew; Host of The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey

In this winsome little book, Lauren Chandler applies resurrection reality to the heart, in a way that will help both adults and kids face death with faith and hope.

Nancy Guthrie Bible teacher and author of the Seeing Jesus in the Old Testament series

God always tells the best stories—for adults and for kids. Whatever our age, we need to hear Jesus say again and again, "Take away the stone." Lauren Chandler helped to bring this precious story alive for me in new ways as I saw it through my daughter’s eyes. This book is a sweet gift to parents—for our children and for our own souls.

David Mathis Executive Editor at desiringGod.org and author of Habits of Grace

In this world, there are way too many goodbyes. Our grief over sickness, sorrow, pain, and death is right, good... and, in Christ, temporary—because Christ has died, Christ has risen, and Christ will come again! These truths cannot be drilled into the human heart too early in life. That’s why I’m so grateful Lauren has written this lovely, hopeful, child-accessible representation of Jesus calling his friend Lazarus up from death. Parents, read this book to your kids over and over again... so that when it comes time for them (and you) to say goodbye, they (and you) will know it is only temporary.

Scott Sauls Senior pastor of Christ Presbyterian Church in Nashville, Tennessee and author of Befriend and From Weakness to Strength

As a parent, and as one who has had to say my share of goodbyes, I understand the difficulty of explaining death to children in a way that validates their sadness but also offers hope in the midst of their sorrow. This book is a beautifully helpful reminder that, even though it feels like it, death doesn’t have to be a forever goodbye, because Jesus came to end goodbyes.

Kristie Anyabwile Author, Bible teacher, pastor's wife and mom of three

This book is full of faith, beauty, hope and life as it helps children deal with grief and loss. I’m so grateful Lauren has written this.

Christine Caine Founder, A21 and Propel Women

How do we help our children get over the fear of death? Lauren Chandler’s engaging account of Jesus and Lazarus speaks profound biblical truth into this common childhood fear. Every generation can read it and be glad!

Barbara Reaoch Former Director, Children's Division, Bible Study Fellowship

I always enjoy Lauren’s wisdom and whimsy! Goodbye to Goodbyes is such a sweet story highlighting the merciful heart of Jesus and how his resurrection power brings us the promise that we will one day have no more tears, no more pain, and no more goodbyes!

Christy Nockels Singer and songwriter; creator of The Glorious in the Mundane podcast

Goodbye to Goodbyes made my heart leap and brought me to joyful tears! No matter the season you or your family find yourself in, whether valley or mountain top, experiencing abundance or loss, this book speaks directly to the heart and centers its readers on the profound hope we have in Jesus.

Rachel Joy Founder and Director, The Sparrow Conference

At a time when our culture has so little to say about death, I am so grateful to Lauren for telling our children that Jesus has all the answers to our questions. Read this book with your children and talk to them about the hope we have with Jesus... forever.

5.00 stars The best book on miscarriage that I've ever read!

(Review written for 'Miscarriage Care Package for Families')

This book is the most amazing book about the sorrow of miscarriage! I have lost 3 precious babies over the years and I can only say that I wish I had this book when I was walking through those trials. While it has been 3 years since my last miscarriage, I can tell you that I cried many times while reading this and I've never felt so understood. Abbey does an amazing job of addressing the topic with compassion and kindness while pointing grieving mothers to the truth of scripture! If you or someone you know has gone through a ...

5.00 stars Great resource for parents and children's workers

I was asked to do a little funeral service for children who did not want to go to the "big" adult funeral for their grandad. I used the free downloadable pictures and told them the story as part of the service then gave them a copy of the book to take home. The pictures and words of truth together offer a way in to begin to talk to children about the reality of death: the sadness it brings as well as the hope offered by Jesus. A great resource for parents and children's workers.
