This 8-session Bible study by Eric Mason isn't just teaching about rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem after the return from exile. Nehemiah helps us think through any type of rebuilding we might do for God: from our homes and families to our local church, our communities and our world.

Each session will draw you to look closely at the Bible text and apply it meaningfully to your everyday life. It includes questions that open up discussion, optional personal reflections and a concise Leader’s Guide.

Flexible and easy to use, Good Book Guides are perfect for both groups and individuals.

Features:

  • Written by a trusted Bible teacher
  • Covers the entire book of Nehemiah in 8 sessions
  • Thoughtful questions that get to the heart of the text and apply it meaningfully to your life
  • Discussion prompts
  • Leader’s Guide with insights on every question
  • Optional extra sections if you have more time, including prayer prompts and icebreaker ideas

There is an accompanying commentary, Nehemiah For You, available for those wanting an even more in-depth study or for those teaching the Bible to others.

“I love this small group study guide series. The guides provide practical, step-by-step guidance on working through books of the Bible, along with wonderful questions that encourage reflection and application. I hope churches and Christian ministries will take advantage of this wonderful resource.” Michael J. Kruger, President and Professor of New Testament, Reformed Theological Seminary

“Each guide in this series provides a framework for your group to dig into the text of Scripture for itself while providing enough of a steer to keep you on track, plus useful pointers towards application. The result is a great combination of fidelity to Scripture and ease of use.” Tim Chester, Crosslands Training; Author

I love this small group study guide series from The Good Book Company. Christians are regularly told they should spend more time studying God’s Word, but sometimes there’s not a clear plan for how to do this. These study guides provide practical, step-by-step guidance on working through books of the Bible, along with wonderful questions that encourage reflection and application. I hope churches and Christian ministries will take advantage of this wonderful resource.

The aim of the The Good Book Company is to be biblical, relevant and accessible, and nothing embodies that ethos more than their Good Book Guides. Each guide provides a framework for your group to dig into the text of Scripture for itself while providing enough of a steer to keep you on track plus useful pointers towards application. The result is a great combination of fidelity to Scripture and ease of use.

The Good Book Guides are an immensely precious resource for the church. A careful blend of helpful context and clearly-worded, searching questions which aim to help readers to uncover the meaning of the text and  apply it in responsible ways. I think these small group studies are the best available and pray that they will continue to prove helpful to local churches across the world!

“I love Nehemiah”

(Review written for 'Nehemiah: God's Building Project')

This has been a good Bible study for a small group. Easy to follow, with tips at the back of the booklet. You can always find something new when studying with others. Even if you are experienced it’s always good

“One of the poorest in the series”

(Review written for 'Nehemiah: God's Building Project')

We have used a lot of Good Book Guides in our church home groups and have found them excellent - pitched at the right level for our groups and reliable and easy to use. This is however one of the poorest in the series - several of the studies seriously miss the "big idea" of the passage and thus have unusable questions. I found I had to come up with my own questions on several occasion.

“Excellent Group Resource”

(Review written for 'Nehemiah: God's Building Project')

We regularly use the Good Book Company Guides for our small groups as they offer enough questions that our group leaders can choose the ones that feel most helpful and they can adapt the study for the length of time they have. This latest version looking at Nehemiah is the usual helpful guide, splitting the book into 8 studies that seem logically structured. Although I very rarely use sections like "Explore More", I like that they're included if I want to take the group on a short tangent. I'd recommend getting this alongside the For You Guide to Nehemiah as it means that you, as a leader or preacher, can delve more deeply into the passage before you use the study guide, but it's not essential.

“good resource”

(Review written for 'Nehemiah: God's Building Project')

This little book is a companion guide to the Nehemiah For You book. The full book is a deep dive, verse by verse study of the book of Nehemiah. This companion guide is specifically meant to guide groups of believers in discovering and exploring the book of Nehemiah.

There are eight studies included that discuss specific sections of scripture within the book of Nehemiah. Each study is structured with the following:

- talkabout

- investigate

- explore more

- getting personal

- apply

- pray

Each section allows for discussion and not necessarily seeking specific black and white answers. It's very purposeful in discovering the applicability of Nehemiah to the group's specific situations.

I do believe the companion guide will be significantly more impactful if completed alongside the For You book but is not necessary.

The Leader's Guide included is also extremely helpful by providing additional insights, thoughts, resources to utilize within the discussion group.

I received a copy of this book from The Good Book Company in exchange for an honest review.

“Enhanced Study”

(Review written for 'Nehemiah: God's Building Project')

Nehemiah: God’s Building Project, is a guide to Nehemiah as a companion piece to Nehemiah For You, both by Eric Mason.

Mason includes eight studies in his guide, presenting a robust way to dig deeper into God’s Word. Each study begins with a Story So Far section, giving background and context to the current verses. Talkabout sections are icebreakers that are relevant to the passage. These would be helpful if you are preparing a Sunday School lesson, or even a sermon on the passage to open or illustrate.

Enhanced Study

The Investigate section asks questions of the text, allowing the reader to follow along and understand. Dictionary segments are helpful, including words such as consecrate and cubit, as well as people and places such as Zerubbabel and Mount Sinai. Getting Personal and Application sections are also included.

A Leader’s Guide is included at the back of the book, serving as an answer key. What I found most helpful were the Big Idea and Summary sections. These will prove to be crucial to small group leaders, but I think they would be especially useful to children’s teachers and ministers. This guide is a great addition to enhance your study of Nehemiah.

I received a media copy of Nehemiah: God’s Building Project and this is my honest review.
