Meet the bloggers - Tim Thornborough

I looked up the word Career in the dictionary the other day and the definition resonated. It said:

"Career (verb): An uncontrolled headlong rush normally ending in disaster"

I grew up in a "non-believing" home, with some pretty wild older siblings. Dysfunctional doesn't quite describe it. When I first started going to a gospel-teaching church as a teenager, I was drawn to a warm Christian family, and eventually responded to the message that made me a part of it.

The basic idea for how I would spend my fourscore years and ten went something like this:

Astronaut; Physicist ; Doctor; Actor; Dancer (classical Ballet); Philosopher; Journalist; Minister; Journalist (again)...

Mercifully, the Lord whom I serve had much better and consistent plans for how he would use me for His glory, so I finally "matured" into a Christian writer and publisher. Believe me the world became a much safer place when the door to medicine was firmly closed in my face.

All along, I have had a passion for local church grass-roots ministry - running a large youth work at my local church for a dozen years, preaching and evangelism wherever I had the opportunity, being part of and running home groups, and latterly enjoying the delights of running a lively Sunday School for 3-7s. I also love sharing with people the mistakes I've made in all these areas (a.k.a. training).

God has been pleased to bless the work of The Good Book Company that started in my living room a little over 20 years ago, and has brought some outstanding colleagues to work as part of our fellowship here.

I love writing blog pieces of all kinds, but particularly the kind that shares some of the hard won experience that has stuck to me - in running a home group, sunday school or youth work. Although my favourite piece of all time is here.

Kathy and I married over 20 years ago, and we now have 3 daughters in various stages of teenage rebellion. Interesting. When not walking our dog, taming the wild garden or sleeping, you might find me practising the Viola or reading trashy Science Fiction novels.

You can discover some of the weirder things about my "career" on The Good Book Company Facebook page.
