God’s word can be rich and engaging at all ages and stages! Beginning with God will set your child’s feet on a path that leads to a love of growing to know and love God through his word. The accessible language and winsome format will make this a family favorite!
Family devotionals can be a wild event! Families need biblically rich and practically accessible resources that keep kids engaged. This devotional guide is not too much or too little, but just right for fruitful family devotions in those years of short attention spans. When paired with the God’s Big Promises Storybook, you have all you need for years of family devotions.
The most important aspect of a Christian household with young children is how and when to introduce our kids to the truths of God. Carl Laferton has provided the most beautiful, accessible, and useful way to meet with God as a young family. This resource is a fantastically biblical path for families to follow in order to do the critical work of building their relationship with God and with one another. And kids are going to LOVE the stickers as much as the illustrations and truths!
I received Beginning With God Family Devotions compliments of The Good Book Company in exchange for my honest review.
Beginning With God Family Devotions is a lovely companion to God's Big Promises Bible Storybook . This is a devotional to be used for family worship time with children ages 2-7. One of my favorite elements of it is that many of the sections require no prep work! The structure of the devotionals is Do, which is an activity for children, To Start, which includes a brief intro to the story, Pray, which includes a brief prayer, Read, which lists which pages of the Bible storybook to read, Tell, which asks a question about the story, Ask, which includes questions for parents/guardians to ask, Listen, which includes a Bible verse, and Pray, which includes a closing prayer.
I love that Beginning With God Family Devotions helps families dive deeper into the stories of Scripture. It includes 92 devotionals, and each ends with a place for a child to place a sticker once it's completed. The stickers are included, and the way they were designed to be used highlights how well this devotional is done.
Most of the prep work is done for parents, making this an easy way to capture children's attention with the beauty of God's word. This is an incredible resource for adults who live full lives and want to employ family discipleship habits but aren't sure where to begin. It's also great for families who have a worship routine but desire a bit more structure. I love this resource and can't wait to read more in the God's Big Promises series!
If you love God’s Big Promises Bible Storybook then this companion family devotional is a must have!
This edifying, faithful, and interactive devotional pairs with all 92 stories from the Bible Storybook. Each devotional includes prayers, questions, and an activity that could be as simple as looking at the stars together or more creative like building a tall tower or dressing up like a queen or king.
And then there’s my 6-year-old daughter’s favorite thing- Sticker time! Kids will love finding the matching sticker showing they have completed their daily reading.
My daughter has been so engaged during story time, and I love her excitement for learning about Jesus.
*I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
It can be hard finding a family devotional when you have little ones. My son is 4, and he loves stickers. We use stickers for potty training and for fun, so I love how this devotional has a sticker for each page. I also like how each day is fairly short - good for squirmy littles - but includes prayer, Bible reading, and a little discussion.
This book is such a great tool. Perfect for planning devotions out your children, and it includes great resources.
I absolutely love the format. Each day is on a separate page, and includes tools to have (etc. stuffed animals), questions for your little one, a prayer, and a Bible story to read through. It’s well laid out and easy to follow.
There are also stickers included to add to the page after finishing the story, coinciding with the specific story. It’s another fun way to involve your kids in the devotion!
Just as a heads up, the Bible stories recommended are through a specific separate children’s Bible, so it would probably be recommended to have the set. However, you can still find the story in your own Bible, or even a different children’s Bible. We use what we have.
Overall, a fantastic tool and one we’re excited about! It’s a great way to involve our entire family!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, received from The Good Book Company. However, all thoughts and views reflected are strictly my own opinions.
Beginning with God (God’s Big Promises) presents 92 Bible devotions for young children by Carl Laferton, with illustrations by Jennifer Davison. It’s a fun and interactive way to spend quality time in God’s Word with your kids!
Meant for preschoolers and kindergartners, each devotion includes helpful features like questions, prayers, and—our favorite—stickers to help retell and interact with the Bible story. My daughter especially loves placing stickers on everything, so this book came at the perfect time!
Engage with Scripture
This devotional works best when paired with a read-aloud from the God’s Big Promises Bible Storybook that you can purchase separately, which is another favorite in our home. The 92 devotions span from creation to Christ’s return, and I love that it allows us to show our kids the full scope of Scripture.
I’m a firm believer that it’s never too early to introduce your kids to God’s Word. This book not only helps you quickly share Scripture—it helps you engage with it together!
