About this book

Gospel workers are called to be both/and people:

  • both patient and urgent,
  • both confident and humble,
  • both dependent on God and committed to hard work,
  • both theologically driven and practically wise, and more.

Often, these requirements feel as though they’re in tension. But this book shows that rather than leaning ...

Endorsements

It takes a particular talent to accomplish what Gary Millar has done in this characteristically clear and profoundly helpful book. With a lightness of touch he helps us understand the keys to living a life truly grounded in the gospel and pursuing a ministry genuinely shaped by that gospel.

Alistair Begg Bible Teacher, Truth For Life; Previous Senior Pastor, Parkside Church, Cleveland; Author, Pray Big and The Christian Manifesto

Christ is only our representative Savior. Or Christ is our example to follow. Why do these two have to be divided? My good friend Gary Millar challenges stalemates such as this with his usual pastoral and theological wisdom. This book should be read as widely as possible!

Michael S. Horton Professor of Theology and Apologetics, Westminster Seminary, California

It is so easy to settle into our personalities and preferences and surrender to ‘that’s-just-the-way-I-am-and-I-can’t-change.’ But when we do, we find that the Spirit is constantly at work pointing out the gaps between this approach and all that the gospel calls us to be. Both/And Ministry not only points out the gaps we may have become blind to; it also energizes us for ongoing repentance and faith until the day when all of the gaps are gone for good.

Nancy Guthrie Bible teacher and author of the Seeing Jesus in the Old Testament series

5.00 stars Both for the Glory of God and the Good of Others

In Both/And Ministry, Gary Millar teaches you how to live and lead like Jesus.

Millar teaches his readers how to pursue the tensions that are present in Christian life and ministry. While the subject matter is theological, Millar stays practical and writes with candor. Ministry is “the stuff you do at church,” and I appreciated his down-to-earth writing.

The Christian life and Christian ministry are a both/and situation. I think most people are familiar with the term 'now and not yet' as it pertains to the kingdom of God. But I loved how this book broke the both/and down into specific areas of ministry and made them really personal. This is a quick read that sparks a lot of personal reflection. I think it's a great resource for slowing down and considering the complexities of Christian ministry.

The back cover description for this book immediately caught my attention. The difference between an Either/Or attitude and a Both/And attitude. Seems like the difference may be minimal and insignificant, but Millar extracts the pertinence of our need to be both/and as called by God.

I think the concept of this book has been a struggle for many leaders for a long time but often difficult to verbalize. This book does a great job of unpacking the details of that ...
