About this book

Inspire kids to rely on God when it's hard to keep going!

Read the true story of Helen Roseveare, a missionary doctor in central Africa.

On the day of her eighth birthday, Helen sat in Sunday school cutting and sticking pictures of faraway countries and, in her heart, made a decision:

“When I grow up, I will travel the world and tell other boys and girls about Jesus.”

Endorsements

Children want heroes. While they may look for them in fictional accounts of magical powers or super-human strength, Christian biographies offer up true stories that invite children to see the greatness of God’s power at work through his people. As parents, we have the opportunity to introduce our children to heroes like “Helen Roseveare: The Doctor Who Kept Going No Matter What.” I pray that this book will inspire a new generation of missionaries who faithfully serve all over the world.

Melissa B. Kruger Vice President of Discipleship Programming, The Gospel Coalition; Author, Wherever You Go, I Want You to Know and Growing Together

I’ve loved Helen Roseveare’s story since I became a Christian. Her faithfulness in suffering is one to encourage both children and adults alike. This is a wonderful story of perseverance that I will read to my children over and over again!

Courtney Reissig Author of Teach Me to Feel and Glory in the Ordinary

Helen Roseveare’s life still speaks. Her real story will help your children see their real need for Jesus.

I highly recommend this book and the entire Do Great Things for God series. I had never heard of Helen Roseveare. But what a remarkable story to share with my daughters. Helen determined at a young age that she would travel the world and tell others about Jesus. And she did! She finished medical school, attended missionary training school, and accepted the mission to Congo. There she did great things for God. Congo became dangerous and she was imprisoned for 5 months. She was then rescued but when it was safe to return to Congo, she did! What an excellent ...

(Review written for 'Helen Roseveare')

I had never heard of Helen Roseveare, I think that's one of my favorite things about this series. Not only to they introduce my girls to godly women, with no feminist agenda, but I've also learned about some amazing women that I'd never heard of. Helen's story of following the Lord's leading in her life and surrendering her anxiety was inspiring. She studied to become a doctor and then attended missionary-training school. Helen set off for the Congo where she helped build a hospital, trained doctors and nurses and shared about Jesus. This book illustrated the power of prayer so ...
