I was drawn to review this book @thegoodbookcompany because of the title and because I have a tween at home who is beginning to see the challenges of living out her faith in a secular world.
The audience is tweens and teens, and I would argue the writing style, chapter length, and examples do a good job of keeping this in mind. Each chapter, while written by a different author, is uniform in length ( only takes about 10-15 minutes to read). I also enjoyed the quotes from teens sprinkled in at the beginning of a few of the chapters. Â
Everyone is asking questions like, "Why am I here?" or, in today's climate, where truth is objective and people are encouraged to "live their truth," How to Be Human helps young readers understand that they were created for a purpose and why.Â
Using Genesis 1-3 as the biblical backbone, each chapter covers one topic: the nature of God, purpose, gender, and sexuality are a few examples. There are no discussion questions or prompts for further reflection, so if you're looking to use it in a small group, just a heads up.
If you are looking for an introduction to some of life's basic questions, or to start a conversation around apologetics, this book is a good start. It's not exhaustive or overly complex in addressing these issues, but especially for teens whose attention spans are limited, it is easily something that could be worked through and finished.

What I absolutely loved about this book is its blend of accessibility and depth. It’s practical yet rich in scripture, grounding its discussions in the first three chapters of Genesis and addressing crucial questions about God, our identities, and the world around us through a Biblical lens.
