“Great introduction to Elisabeth Elliot!”

(Review written for 'Elisabeth Elliot')

I remember learning about Elisabeth Elliot at a young age. I even had the privilege of meeting her briefly at a book signing when I was about 10. As a child, I never quite understood how she could befriend the people who took the love of her life. So I was curious how this author would tackle the difficulties that Elisabeth faced in a way that children could comprehend and enjoy. And I must say the author handled it beautifully. She introduces Elisabeth, Jim, and the Wao people in a way that kids will see all aspects of the story and how God used it for His glory and His good. She forgave them like Jesus. She trusted God even though she was scared and sad. What a great lesson for little ones. What an incredible person for you and your children to look up to.

The story shows their journey into the jungle, and children will enjoy the vibrant illustrations of parrots, monkeys, butterflies, and more. The illustrations of the Wao people are handled very tactfully.

What a great introduction to Elisabeth Elliot for ages 5+. The book also includes a timeline, map, questions, and a photograph.

*I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you so much, Rachel!

“Great resource!”

(Review written for 'Elisabeth Elliot')

Thank you to the author and publisher for my gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

The first time I heard of Elisabeth Elliot was in college when my social club had one her quotes as our club motto. "The fact that I am a woman does not make me a different kind of Christian, but the fact that I am a Christian makes me a different kind of woman." Her story has since fascinated me and I have enjoyed learning more about Elisabeth and her life. This picture book is the perfect resource for introducing children to Elisabeth and the work she did in her life. The illustrations are beautiful and the text easy to read. I highly recommend!

We're so glad to hear that you're able to recommend this resource, Annie! Thank you for your review.

“An Excellent Biography for Kids!”

(Review written for 'Elisabeth Elliot')

The Do Great Things for God biography series is great for Christian families who want to teach young children about famous and lesser-known figures from church history. This recent addition focuses on Elisabeth Elliot, a beloved and sometimes polarizing figure known for her missions work, writing, and speaking.

The author, Ellen Vaughn, has previously published biographies of Elliot for adult readers. Given the sheer quantity of research that went into those books, it must have been daunting to narrow things down for a brief picture book biography. Vaughn chose to focus on Elliot's missionary work, and on the theme of forgiving people who have hurt you. The story is well-paced and conveys a powerful message, and the illustrations from Emma Randall are colorful and inviting.

Although this story deals with heavy themes related to the martyrdom of Elliot's first husband and his friends, the writing style and illustrations are age-appropriate for kids. Also, kids will enjoy the details related to Elliot's young daughter, Val, and her adventures in the jungle. I'm glad that Vaughn mentioned Val as much as she did, since children can find her relatable.

This biography will delight fans of Elisabeth Elliot who want to introduce her legacy to a new generation. This picture book has high quality writing and illustrations, and it has a powerful message about love, forgiveness, and sharing the gospel. Also, parents and teachers at Christian schools should know that the publisher is offering additional resources and worksheets on their website, which people can download for free to supplement this book in a school setting.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Thank you so much for sharing this review, Bethany!

“We love this inspirational, uplifting biography!”

(Review written for 'Elisabeth Elliot')

As huge fans of the Do Great Things for God series, my daughter and I were super excited for Elisabeth Elliot’s story. The wife of martyred missionary Jim Elliot, Elisabeth bravely chose love over fear when she chose to go to, live with and witness to the tribe of people who killed her husband. Her story is one of forgiveness, bravery and incredible faith in God.

My third grader loved this story and has read it several times over the last couple of weeks. Her favorite part is that of little Val and her bare feet. This story is easy to read, inspirational and uplifting with vibrant illustrations, just like others in the series. It reminds readers that God is always with them and that sharing the love of Jesus is important.

As a parent, I find this biography and the others in this series to be of incredible value because I want to surround my daughter with the inspiring stories of courageous men and women who have followed God’s call on their lives. Not only does she enjoy these stories, but I do too and we love having these books on our shelves!

This beloved series will forever be a favorite in our home. We can’t recommend them enough!

* I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts are my own and I was not required to write a positive review.

Thanks so much for this review, Mandy! What an encouragement!

• As kids get a glimpse into the lives of men and women who faithfully served God, they come to understand how God uses ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things for His glory. The series is diverse and helps kids build a broad understanding of the myriad of ways Christians have served God throughout the ages and across the world.

“Introduce an amazing woman to your young children”

(Review written for 'Elisabeth Elliot')

This new book from Ellen Vaughn allows parents to introduce children as young as 4 years old to an incredible woman of God who characterized selflessness and forgiveness.

Children will giggle at sweet Val who spent her early years running barefoot in the jungle.

The book focuses primarily on Elisabeth’s service in Ecuador, but it also includes a timeline with more details about her life.

As always, I appreciate the extra online resources for parents and teachers.

I look forward to using this book to teach my daughter about Elisabeth Elliot, and I recommend it for children ages 4-8.

Thanks so much for your recommendation, Kathryn!
