Every Christian would like to become more joyful. The New Testament even commands us to "rejoice always" (1 Thessalonians 5:16). So how do we cultivate a deep and resilient joy that will endure through all circumstances?
This seven-session Bible study explores what joy is and how to have it.
Each session will draw you to look closely at the Bible text and apply it meaningfully to your everyday life. It includes questions that open up discussion, optional personal reflections, and a concise Leader’s Guide.
Flexible and easy to use, Good Book Guides are perfect for both groups and individuals.
Features:
“Each guide in this series provides a framework for your group to dig into the text of Scripture for itself while providing enough of a steer to keep you on track plus useful pointers towards application. The result is a great combination of fidelity to Scripture and ease of use.” - Tim Chester, Crosslands Training; Author
The Friday Bible study girls are now working through a wonderful Bible study book after picking our book and exceptional delivery.
I think that these Good Book Company guides are the best Bible notes available, and these thematic notes on the biblical thread of joy are great. They work through a series of passages that mention joy, mostly from the New Testament, and lead us toward the conclusion that cultivating biblical joy is possible. These have been redesigned recently and are much easier to read than the old copies, printed on quality paper, and we're very happy with them
This is a topical study on joy. Using Scripture from both the Old and New Testaments, the focus is on biblical joy, rooted in Jesus.
Each of the 7 sessions has the following format as well as a dictionary for some of the key words.
Talkabout: ice breaker for groups or getting your thoughts going if doing alone
Investigate: explore ...the passage
Apply: practical questions
Explore more: go deeper
Getting Personal: personal reflection
Pray: prayer
There’s a leader’s guide in the second half of the book to facilitate group discussions. There’s also a pitch for why to study joy at the beginning of the book.
This is a clear and concise study guide. It offers very little commentary or context and instead allows the reader to wrestle with Scripture on their own before turning to a commentary. I personally prefer this approach as I think it helps me to actually learn better than reading the verses with the commentary before approaching the questions.
I enjoy the simplicity to the study guide with how each session is laid out. It can easily be done on its own for individual study, but is also set up to be great for groups. The leader’s guide in the back equips even the most inexperienced leader to do well. These are targeted for adults, but I am even thinking about using them in our homeschooling in our preteen/teen years with the kids.
