I was thoroughly enjoying this book, being blessed by its encouraging tone, when I was slightly taken aback by some gender-specific terms, especially in chapter 8. At first, as a man, I felt excluded from what the words were saying. It was then that I realised Carolyn's ministry focus is to women. Undaunted I carried on reading and can honestly say that this book should be read by both men and women. It taps into aspects of God that speak to the needs of both genders - indeed to everyone.
Personally I have found my own devotional time invigorated by the freshness and honesty of Carolyn's book.

January is a tough month for me since a year ago I discovered a miraculous surprise pregnancy a few days after Christmas that was followed shortly by an unexpected “missed miscarriage” diagnosis in mid-January before experiencing the miscarriage 2 weeks after that. It’s easy to spiral into a depressed state if I focus on that very much. I spent January of this year reading “Amazed” by Carolyn Lacey and it was just what my tender soul needed - to be consistently drawn into awe of God. Spending each day reading Scripture and diving into God’s character leaves little room for ...negative thoughts and feelings. This book covers God’s glory, power, creation, uniqueness, greatness, and kindness. Aside from the Scripture for each devotional, it includes reflection as well as a cultivate and prayer section. I especially appreciated the prompt for cultivation as it helped put what was read into practice. Oftentimes, Christians think awe and wonder, love and faithfulness, and other duties of Christians will just magically be bestowed upon them, but the reality is it takes effort to cultivate and grow these Christian character traits. “Amazed” is a valuable tool for doing this and helpful for any Christian to read. I definitely grew in awe of God from reading this book which directly impacted proper perspective for current life challenges. I received a complimentary copy as a reviewer and all opinions shared are my own.

I received Amazed compliments of The Good Book Company in exchange for my honest review.
Amazed is the first devotional by author Carolyn Lacey. This book includes 30 devotions focused on beholding Jesus. It's broken up into six sections, with each section focused on an aspect of God's character. Each devotion begins with a passage of Scripture and then contains additional verses for readers to examine.
I love that this devotional encourages readers to go to Scripture first before reading the devotional content. The content concludes with a Cultivate section, which encourages readers to go deeper with what they read in that day's devotional, and a Pray section, which includes prayer prompts also based on the day's reading.
There are twelve pages for journaling in the back of the book, giving readers extra space for interacting with its content. Carolyn's insights are deeply comforting and richly rooted in Scripture. Amazed lives up to its title as reading it left me more in awe of God. This has easily become one of my favorite devotionals due to its being saturated in Scripture, and I highly recommend it!
