This eight-session Bible study on John chapters 1-12 by Josh Moody walks through the first half of John's Gospel with a focus on living the fulfilling life.
Each session will draw you to look closely at the Bible text and apply it meaningfully to your everyday life. It includes questions that open up discussion, optional personal reflections, and a concise Leader’s Guide.
Flexible and easy to use, Good Book Guides are perfect for both groups and individuals.
“The Good Book Guides are a fantastic resource for small-groups and personal study. I've used many of them myself. For a busy small-group leader, or a Christian looking for refreshment in his or her devotional life, these come so highly recommended.” - Sam Allberry, Pastor and Author
“Each guide in this series provides a framework for your group to dig into the text of Scripture for itself while providing enough of a steer to keep you on track plus useful pointers towards application. The result is a great combination of fidelity to Scripture and ease of use.” - Tim Chester, Crosslands Training; Author
This is a verse-by-verse study on the second half of the gospel of John. Each of the 8 sessions has the following format as well as a dictionary for some of the key words.
Talkabout: ice breaker for groups or getting your thoughts going if doing alone
Investigate: explore the passage
Apply: practical questions
Explore more: go deeper
Getting Personal: personal reflection
Pray: prayer
There’s a leader’s guide in the second half of the book to facilitate group discussions. There’s also a timeline at the beginning as well as some context for why to study John 13-21.
This is a clear and concise study guide. It offers very little commentary or context, but can be used as a companion to the commentary “John 13-21 for You”. I do appreciate the separation of these as I can tend to focus more easily on the commentary than the actual verses when they are together. This study allows me to wrestle with Scripture on my own before immediately turning to a commentary. I think this approach helps me to actually learn better than reading the verses with the commentary before approaching the questions.
I enjoy the simplicity to the study guide with how each session is laid out. It can easily be done on its own for individual study, but is also set up to be great for groups. The leader’s guide in the back equips even the most inexperienced leader to do well. These are targeted for adults, but I am even thinking about using them in our homeschooling in our preteen/teen years with the kids.
I received a complimentary copy as a reviewer and all opinions shared are my own.

We've used a few of these guides and the group loved them. This one is the fastest moving of them all. We have found splitting most sessions into 2 study sessions works best, it's the first time we've made up our own additional questions too. That said, the discussions are some of the best we have had, and it's really given a chance for people to find multiple layers of meaning within the text in a way we haven't done before. Overall, not my favourite in the series as a leader, but a great one for a mixed group.

This is our 2nd Good Book Guide Bible study, the first being Acts, The Church is Born, The Church Multiplies (1-12 and 13-28). John is a terrific study (as is Acts). We love the deep questions that are asked - both as icebreakers and in-depth, real-life-following-Christ questions. We appreciate the references to other Scriptural passages when appropriate. Never overdone.
We like the optional questions and Scripture passages that allow you to dive deeply on your own but not necessarily when you meet as a group.
This is solid Bible study but accessible to just about anyone. We highly recommend!
