Description

What does the fruit of the Spirit look like in everyday life, and how can we become the people the Holy Spirit calls us to be?

Author Kristin Elizabeth Couch invites you to explore the fruit of the Spirit through captivating stories of people she’s known: there’s a father who goes missing in a snowstorm; a boss who shouts like a drill sergeant; a neighbor with a refrigerator full of eggs; and Grandpa, who smells of Old Spice!

By combining memorable stories with rich meditations on Scripture, Kristin encourages us to see that God is at work even in life’s mundane moments, and that although our growth may seem slow, in the Spirit’s power we really can become more like Jesus.

As you reflect on the fruit of the Spirit, you will long for it more deeply, pray for it more fervently, and see afresh how the Spirit is at work in your own life and the lives of others. Put deep roots into God’s word and enjoy bearing more and more of his good fruit.

It is one of God’s greatest promises and one of our foremost encouragements: that he is changing us from the inside out. By the work of his Spirit, he is transforming us so we bear fruit—fruit that displays the goodness and grace of our Savior. That is the subject of this book, which has been written by one of my favorite authors. And as Kristin does on her blog and elsewhere, she not only writes what is true, but she writes it beautifully and compellingly.

If Kristin Couch had only helped me to better understand the fruit of the Spirit, I would be grateful. But this book does far more; through brilliant storytelling, Couch makes the Spirit’s fruit smellable, tasteable, and alluringly beautiful.

“surprisingly joyful read”

This book was nothing as I expected. I expected to dig deep into Scripture to learn more about the fruit of the Spirit. Although this book does do that, it does it from a completely different perspective and writing style than I anticipated.

Kristin does an amazing job of sharing inspiring, captivating stories of those in her life who have learned and lived out the fruit of the Spirit in very extraordinary ways. The back cover description hits it spot on: ...you will long for it more deeply, pray for it more fervently, and see afresh how the Spirit is growing you to be more like Jesus. As you read every story that so vividly captures the beauty of the fruit of the Spirit, you can't help but desire the Lord to equip you with each one more deeply.

The book is structured with an introduction, nine chapters, and a reflection questions section. Each chapter touches on one of the fruit of the spirit.

I particularly enjoyed the reflection questions. Although Kristin did a wonderful job of diving into Scripture throughout each chapter, these questions allow the reader to apply more of the truth to their specific lives and situations.

This was definitely a surprisingly joyful read.

I received a copy of this book from The Good Book Company in exchange for an honest review.

“Encouraging Words!”

"Deep Roots, Good Fruits" by Kristin Elizabeth Couch is a beautifully written book that encourages readers to grow in their faith and become more like Jesus. Couch's heartfelt message resonates deeply, especially with quotes like, "No matter your station in life—rich or poor, young or old, pastor or parishioner—if you are a Christian, the joy of the Lord is yours. A joy impervious to circumstances." This book is a beacon of hope and inspiration, reminding us of the unwavering joy that comes from a life rooted in Christ.

“Wonderful!”

Kristin is a true storyteller. Full of stories that truly make you feel glimmers of hope, longing and encouragement. ✨

Hope that God can, by His Holy Spirit, grow us in His likeness, by His grace and mercy. 🙌

💕 What’s the book about?
Kristin takes each fruit of the spirit and provides wonderful stories of people she has met in her lifetime who have been beautiful examples of how God can and does grow supernatural love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control, in us.

She follows this up with biblical examples and explanation of what each one is.

And she does so in a compelling, inspiring and convicting way. I thoroughly enjoyed her writing style.

💕 Who’s it for?
Everyone! If you are a follower of Jesus and you yearn to grow in His likeness, these stories will bring encouragement as you seek to walk the path of faithful pilgrims who are ahead of us.

💕 Concluding thoughts
I devoured it in three days and will most definitely revisit it. You cannot help but be inspired when you hear of these kinds of stories, of ordinary people, living ordinary lives, but with extraordinary joy, peace, patience and what not…. because of Him. All in all it was a most refreshing read.

This book will make you want to seek Him more ♥️

Thank you TGBC for generously providing this copy in exchange for my honest review.
