“This is such a timely and important book—but it’s not only crucial; it’s delightful. You learn and laugh and experience a narrative so conspicuously absent from our culture’s loudest voices. This wonderful story will help boys form an identity rooted in truth and dedicated to using their strengths as servants. Best of all, it also points them to that perfect man, Jesus Christ. I love this book!”

Author, Hope When It Hurts, Humble Moms, and the For the Bible Tells Me So board book series

“My son and I are often talking about what true strength and manliness looks like—and now I have a great book to give him! I’m so thankful for Champ’s enjoyable writing and faithful Bible teaching and look forward to giving this to many young boys we know.”

Marty Machowski

Family pastor; author of The Ology, The Gospel Story Bible, Long Story Short, and other gospel-rich resources for families

“In a world of gender confusion, parents need helpful resources to reinforce their children’s God-given identity. This is such a resource. Rich with gospel truth, It’s Good to Be a Boy celebrates manhood for young boys and points them to the ultimate man, Jesus Christ. Every family will want to add this to their bookshelf and read it often.”

“Teach Your Boys (And Girls) Biblical Truths”

We loved the book It’s Good to Be a Girl so I am excited to have this companion for boys now! I only have a daughter but after reading the book about girls she immediately asked me “Mama, what about boys?” I was so excited to have this book about boys to read so she understands the goodness of both male and female.

This book starts little ones out at creation and learning about God creating man and then goes on to give godly examples of men in the Bible and modern history. This is an important book for our time and I think will encourage families to pass on to their boys (and girls) biblical truths about being a boy.

Recommended ages 3-7

It's worth noting that the book includes cartoon-style depictions of Christ, which might be something to consider if your family has specific convictions on that.

“These books are the perfect set!”

Friends, these books are the perfect match. I have 2 girls and 2 boys myself, and I am so grateful for who God made them to be - their differences, their strengths, and the fact that both boys and girls are made in His image.

What a delight to be able to recognize and celebrate these differences, strengths and truths in these two books by @thegoodbookcompanyusa . “It’s Good to Be a Girl” was published in 2024, & “It’s Good to Be a Boy” just released this month to complete this set.

I love how both of these books also highlight specific heroes of the faith that showed great courage. And then how we can likewise love and serve Him where He has placed us today.

“High-five, praise God, and shout for joy
Because it’s good to be a boy!”

“Let’s thank our God, rejoice and twirl,
Because it’s good to be a girl!”

“A book for every Christian family!”

Our boys are bombarded with lies about who they are - and the best way to fight lies is with truth. Truth, we know, is found in the person of Jesus and in the Word given to us.

This new release from The Good Book Company is a picture book that compelling illustrates key Biblical truths; ones like God is our Creator and He specially designs boys in His image and for unique purposes. It gives examples of great men, both from the bible and more recent history, to highlight the incredible things God can do through boys. But ultimately, it points to Jesus as the Greatest Man and the highest example for our boys to look at for Biblical Manhood.

I loved reading this book and was so encouraged by the clear messages found in its pages. It's going to be my new go-to for baby showers and birthday gifts!

Thank you to the publisher for a complimentary book in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed are completely my own

“Lovely Message”

It’s Good to Be a Boy: A Celebration of All That God Made You to Be offers an encouraging and faith-centered message for young readers. I appreciated the book’s emphasis on boys being intentionally created by God and the positive examples it gives of being helpful, kind, and serving others. The portrayal of godly men as role models, along with the clear presentation of Jesus as our Savior, is a meaningful strength of the book.

While the overall message resonated with me, the writing style and illustrations were not personally to my taste. That said, the heart behind the story is sincere and uplifting, and the book’s purpose—to affirm boys and point them toward Christ—is clear and well intentioned.

I received a complementary e-copy of the book and was under no obligation to leave a positive review.

“A Joyful, Heart-Centered Celebration of Boys”

It’s Good to Be a Boy by Champ Thornton, with delightful illustrations by Hsulynn Pang, is a vibrant and affirming picture book that celebrates the wonder, energy, and goodness of being a boy. From the first pages, the language carries a joyful tone that embraces the unique gifts, questions, and experiences that shape a boy’s journey. Each page offers a fresh reflection on the goodness of creation, the joy of discovery, and the invitation to grow in courage, faith, and character.

What makes this book especially meaningful is the way it weaves encouragement with truth. Thornton’s writing affirms boys for who they are while gently pointing them toward the greater story of purpose and identity found in God. Rather than settling for surface-level praise, the book invites readers to recognize strength in kindness, bravery in faith, and joy in obedience. Children are invited not just to enjoy being boys, but to see themselves as beloved and intentional parts of God’s world.

Hsulynn Pang’s illustrations bring each page to life with warmth, movement, and color. The art complements the text beautifully, capturing both the playful energy of childhood and the deeper moments of reflection. Together, author and illustrator have created a book that feels both fun and foundational.

It’s Good to Be a Boy stands out as a resource that encourages confidence, faith, and gratitude—all while celebrating the big, wild, tender, and wonderful aspects of boyhood. It is a book that can spark meaningful conversations, delight young readers, and serve as a reminder of the goodness woven into who they are.

“Inspirational and encouraging for Christian boys!”

Emphasizing masculinity without stereotypes. Praising God for manhood. Rooted in Biblical truth. Pointing to the ultimate man, Jesus. A wonderful book and timely for the culture we live in. It uses the repeated refrain “High-five, praise God, and shout for joy! Because it’s good to be a boy!” throughout the book while showcasing how God made men, what their purpose is, who their Savior is, and other great Christian men in history. A short, but delightful read, especially for 3-7 year olds.

“it is so important for boys to be taught how to be men”

It’s Good to Be a Boy
A Celebration of All That God Made You to Be
Author: Champ Thornton (Illustrated by Hsulynn Pang)
Publisher: The Good Book Company
Publish Date: February 2026

I get to review this book with my 4 year old son and we read it immediately together when we picked it up. This book is a fun and helpful book to teach children that God made us in his image as male and female, and that is God’s good design. Men and boys are created with strength and abilities that we can use to serve God and others around us. In this gender confused age, it is so important for boys to be taught how to be men and have fathers and other men in their lives to model for them what biblical manhood looks like. This book is suitable for 3 years and up. Definitely recommend this book to parent to read with their children.
